“Long-Term Potentiation of Neuron-Glia Synapses” was selected as one of the 2006 Top Ten News in Basic Research in China.

On February 16th, 2007, Dr. DUAN Shumin’s research on “Long-Term Potentiation of Neuron-Glia Synapses” was selected as one of the 2006 Top Ten News in Basic Research in China. This finding demonstrates a novel form of activity-dependent long-term enhancement of neuron-glia signaling and suggests additional sites for information storage in the brain. (Ge, et al, Science, 2006, 312: 1533-1537).

The selection of the 2006 Top Ten News in Basic Research in China was organized by the Department of Basic Research, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the China Association for Science and Technology. Over 1600 people including Members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chief Scientists of 973 Projects and Directors of State Key Laboratory took part in the selection process. The criteria for selection were originality and creativity, and significant impact in the international community.
