Regular ION affairs are administered by committees composed of and chaired by ION faculty members. The functions and members of 2009 are detailed below.

Executive Committee: This committee is composed of the Director, Deputy Director, Executive Officer. The committee reviews the recommendations of the International Advisory Board, ad hoc Scientific Review Committees, and all other ION committees and makes final decisions on academic and administrative affairs, including appointments of personnel and allocation of space and resources. Members: Mu-ming Poo (Chair), Shu-min Duan, Yan Wang. 

Academic Committee: This committee is responsible for ION internal review of research laboratories and some academic appointments, for promoting and organizing research collaborations and new program projects and for interacting with government agencies. It normally consists of senior investigators of ION and those from other institutions in Shanghai area of CAS. Members: Mu-ming Poo (Chair), Xu Zhang, Ai-ke Guo, Shu-min Duan, Yi-zheng Wang, Tian-le Xu, Zhi-qi Xiong, Qi-shui Lin, Gang Pei.

Education Committee: This committee is responsible for overseeing all affairs related to the ION graduate/postdoctoral programs, including organization of new courses, laboratory rotations and selection of thesis advisors, approval of the composition of the thesis committee and the schedule of thesis defenses, and final approval of Ph.D. degrees granted by ION. It consists of ION faculty members and those of other institutions. Members: Zhen-ge Luo (Chair), Tian-le Xu, Zhi-qi Xiong, Jia-wei Zhou, Zuo-Ren Wang, Chen He, Ping Zheng.

Recruitment Committee: This committee is responsible for the recruitment of laboratory and unit heads and key ION office staff. Members: Mu-ming Poo (Chair), Shu-min Duan, Zhen-ge Luo, Zhi-qi Xiong, Si Wu, Jiu-lin Du, Yan Wang.

Committee on Colloquia and Symposia: This committee is responsible for reviewing and organizing ION seminars, colloquia, workshops, and symposia. Members: Xiang Yu (Chair), You-sheng Shu, Xiao-bing Yuan, Wei Wang, Hai-lan Hu.

Committee on Core Facilities: This committee is in charge of overseeing the operation of all ION core facilities, recommending the purchase, maintenance and renovation equipment, and staff appointment in these facilities. Members: Zhi-qi Xiong (Chair), Xu Zhang, Yi-zheng Wang, Jian-wei Jiao, Qian Hu, Hai-dong Lu, Fu-de Huang.

Committee on Animal Facilities: The committee is responsible for granting and management of animal licenses at ION and overseeing the operation of the animal care and behavioral test facilities. Members: Yu-qiang Ding (Chair), Hai-shan Yao, Xiao-hui Zhang, Ming-sha Zhang, Fu-lin Yang.

Social Activity Committee: The committee is responsible for the organization of various staff and student social activities. Members: Tian-le Xu (Chair), Si Wu, Su-rong Huang, Tian-zhe Wang, Wen-liang Lei, Guo-ying Yang.
