ION research finding “Study of a novel mechanism for neuron synaptogenesis promoted by TRPC”, carried out by Drs. Yi-Zheng Wang, Xiao-Bing Yuan, Yi-Chang Jia, Jian Zhou and their colleagues, received a second prize award of the 2014 National Natural Science Award. Key findings of their work included:

  1. TRPC channels played an essential role in the guidance of nerve growth cones by brain-derived neurotrophic factor.

  2. TRPC channels promoted the survival of cerebellar granule neurons.

  3. Requirement of dendritic Akt degradation by ubiquitin proteasome system for neuronal polarity.

  4. TRPC6 channels played a critical role in the formation of excitatory synapses.

Dr. Yi-Zheng Wang  attended the 2014 National Science and Technology Awards Ceremony  at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Jan 9th. .
